- Every element of this photograph was considered and yet, it is very true. It’s my story. I marvel over God’s creation. I love light, especially the long, warm rays of the late day sun. Obviously, I’m not afraid of a little dirt. And, my family is a part of everything I do…even my self portrait.
At the risk of being redundant, I chose this little intro here in the blog. Part of the reason is the business of doing business keeps me busy. So, I don’t hesitate to use what has already worked and move on! The other reason is because this photo and description is really me. If you know me, you’re chuckling a little. If you don’t know me but you know Corpus Christi, you are probably wondering why I’d take my self-portrait around Oso Creek.
I suppose I like rugged nature, harsh lines, and weathered objects. I like to pull off the road and exclaim, “That’s it! That’s where we are going!” Consequently, my family has grown accustomed to such types of outings. Here, my daughter merrily covered herself in ‘sandirt’ and had fun running into the scene even when she wasn’t invited. Later, we dicovered our most perfect shell, which we proudly took home to daddy.
My goal is to find and illustrate a story like this one for all of my clients. In fact, this type of dynamic-editorial photography has always been my passion. I remember thinking several years ago how much I’d love to convince non-wedding clients to let me illustrate their lives (the photojournalistic style crept first into wedding photography). You can imagine how excited I was to hear a gentleman say to his wife of 20+ years, “I feel like we are getting married.”
Even better, is when moms of young children think their kiddos didn’t coöperate for the camera, yet I capture photos like this one…
Knowing well how busy these parents of four are, it was a true joy to photograph Carmen and Marcus’ moments of laughter and romance.
And lately, I’m inspired by student athletes! Talk about emotion…
I relish the opportunity to capture real feelings and personalities. I hope my photos will touch a person’s senses in many years to come. We will have captured their stories. I know I’ll remember the grit of the Oso ‘sandirt’ between my toes, the glow of the sun in my daughter’s hair, her mischievous giggles, and the wonder of finding a near perfect shell!
It’s all about the story and how much I love to illustrate it!
